Editor’s letter
Being an artist requires courage. Artists have to ask questions about our world. Hard questions. Questions that not everyone wants to answer. It’s why it’s imperative for artists to remain curious about and experiment with new technologies. By doing so, they ask some of the most important questions of their time. What role should those technologies play? What future might they unlock? What pasts could they undo?
When engaging with new technologies, artists don’t simply expand their toolkits, they ensure their work remains relevant and challenging. Because in leveraging the power of technology, artists can ensure they’re not just asking questions, but also paving the way for a more thoughtful and inquisitive future.
In a way, being an artist requires one to see the future, while still being informed by the past. Amongst their many tools and instruments, each artist holds a telescope. And with it they can not only glimpse the future of things, they can also help shape it.
Today, as we find ourselves on the cusp of a new era of human creativity augmented by artificial intelligence, having a telescope of one’s own is more important than ever. And so we’ve set out to provide one for you. We hope you’ll find it helpful to imagine where we all might be going.
Cristóbal Valenzuela
